The Vanguard Audio Labs V4 Gen 2 is a large-diaphragm FET condenser microphone that rivals the performance of microphones costing several times more. Featuring improved sound staging and an even lower signal-to-noise ratio than its predecessor, the V4 Gen 2 is designed to be a go-to microphone, at a price that wont break the bank.

The V4 has been designed with certain characteristics of classic FET microphones in mind. They started with an extra-large 34mm edge-terminated, gold-sputtered Mylar dual-capsule assembly and custom-voiced it with a proprietary hand-tuning process. The capsule is mounted in an open-weave headbasket for a natural sound with low internal reflections. Following that, they then designed a transformerless solid-state circuit that matches the unique musical properties of the capsules and loaded it with premium-grade components.
As one of the most critical components in the signal path, they tested several transistors before choosing this particular model, an ultra-high-grade FET transistor yielding significant and audible improvements in audio quality, headroom, distortion, sound-stage and noise floor.
Every microphone is run through a series of tests and quality control, ensuring that Vanguard are proud of every microphone that leaves the workshop.
Included with the V4 Gen 2 is the VLSM heavy-duty shockmount; a redesigned shock mount with an open front, allowing the user to position the microphone as close to the source as possible, and aerospace-grade suspension rings that wont break, sag, crack or stretch over time.
A padded, pinewood box is also provided for storing the microphone itself, keeping it safe from any knocks and subsequent damage. Lastly, this is then all housed in a purpose-built aluminum carry case to ensure its safety in transit or storage.
The Vanguard Audio Labs V4 Gen 2 was designed to be robust and reliable, with every microphone having been put through a stringent series of audio and visual tests. Deep-cycle cryogenic treatment improves the lifespan and performance of critical electronic components, whilst the stainless steel body works to house its contents safely and securely.
