NOVA goes Atmos: Trinnov’s Biggest Update Yet

Trinnov has released software version 2.1.3 for NOVA and it’s a significant one. The headline feature is a new Immersive mode, unlocking optimisation for monitoring configurations up to 7.1.4, or 12 channels.

For anyone running a NOVA, or considering one, this update changes what’s possible without changing what’s on your rack.

Immersive Mode: The Big One

Until now, NOVA’s configuration has focused on traditional stereo and 5.1 surround monitoring setups. With this new update, that scope expands significantly. NOVA can now optimise up to 12 discrete channels in a 7.1.4 configuration.

It’s worth being clear about what this does and doesn’t do. NOVA isn’t decoding Dolby Atmos itself. Instead, it’s optimising the discrete channels arriving from your renderer or DAW, applying the same room and loudspeaker correction NOVA is known for, now across a full immersive layout.

A few practical details on how Immersive mode works:

• Supports monitoring configurations up to 7.1.4
• Runs over Dante audio inputs (outputs can be a combination of analog, AES and Dante)
• Maximum sample rate of 48 kHz
• One speaker set available while in Immersive mode
• Requires a dedicated Immersive preset, created through the NOVA Wizard

Standard Mode Gets an Upgrade Too

Immersive isn’t the only mode benefiting from this release. Standard monitoring mode has also been extended, from 6 up to 8 optimised channels, giving existing setups more headroom for setups such as 4 stereo pairs or 3 stereo speakers and 2 subs or 7.1

The Upgrade Path Is Simple

This is where v2.1.3 gets particularly interesting for anyone already running a NOVA.

A NOVA with 8 licensed Optimiser channels automatically unlocks up to 12 optimised channels the moment Immersive mode is active, at no additional cost per channel. And if you’re currently running a NOVA 6, you’re just one additional OPT2-NOVA stereo license away from a complete NOVA 12 setup in Immersive mode.

In short, the path looks like this:

NOVA 2 → NOVA 4 → NOVA 6 → NOVA 8/12 channels in Immersive mode

For studios and rooms that have been holding off on immersive monitoring due to cost or complexity, this makes a 7.1.4 Dante-based setup considerably more accessible, particularly for smaller and mid-sized Dolby Atmos rooms.

Everything Else in v2.1.3

Beyond Immersive mode, this release brings a set of workflow improvements that make day-to-day use of NOVA smoother:

• Calibration graphs in the Wizard — measurement and optimisation graphs are now viewable directly in the setup Wizard immediately after calibration, without needing to leave the workflow.
• Revised clock management — Nova no longer automatically switches to its internal clock if an external clock signal drops. Instead, it enters a No Sync state and reconnects automatically once the selected clock returns, giving more predictable behavior overall.
• Automatic Bass Management recalculation — a new Recompute Bass Management option automatically updates Bass Management parameters when switching between compatible speaker sets.
• Restart and shutdown from software — NOVA can now be rebooted or shut down directly from the app, including support for La Remote, removing the need to access the physical unit for routine management.
• Auto Start from Power up — Configure the Nova so that when it receives power, it will boot.
• Keyboard editing for target curves — target and excursion curves can now be adjusted in 0.1 dB steps using the keyboard, offering a faster, more precise alternative to mouse-only editing.
• A number of general bug fixes and performance improvements round out the release.
