Thunder | Core Near-Zero Latency

The DAD Thunder|Core Technology provides a Thunderbolt 3 connection with near-zero latency. Engineers can interface between audio applications on macOS or Windows and the Thunder|Core audio hardware.

The interface provides a fast Thunderbolt 3/PCIe connection for data transfer with 2 samples of latency and a total of 9 samples of latency in the digital interface, this total also includes the EQ and summing processing within the unit for ultra fast onboard processing.

The interface can provide up to 256 audio channels at 48 and 96kHz, with a latency of 95 microseconds at 96kHz. The total round-trip latency with an audio software application will depend on the buffer size set for the application. With a buffer size of 32 samples for example, the latency is 670 microseconds or 0.67 ms at 96 kHz.

AD  Analogue and Digital Expansion

The Digital Audio Denmark AX Center allows for optional card expansion, giving the device the flexibility to be moulded into any studio environment. For use with microphones and line level devices, analogue expansion cards can be used and powered by DAD pre-amps (available as a separate licence). For networked studios MADI and Dante expansion cards are available, giving engineers an extra 128 channels to add to their arsenal.

Right out of the box, DAD AX Center comes with a Thunderbolt 3 interface, 2 x 8 analogue interface, 256 ch. Dante I/O, 64 ch. MADI I/O and 2 x ADAT/SPDIF. However, should that not be enough to cover your I/O needs, optional expansion cards are available.

The DAD AX Center has two expansion slots allowing users to customize the device to suit their needs. The following IO cards are available to choose from:

  • 8 Channel Balanced Line A/D In
  • 8 Channel Balanced Line & Mic Preamp A/D In
  • 8 Channel Balanced Line D/A Out
  • Dante w built-in SRC (128 Channels)
  • 8 Channel AES
  • Dual MADI (128 Channels)
  • Dual SDI embedder/de-embedder

Onboard Monitor Control

The DAD AX Center comes with the world-renowned PRO|MON monitor controller. A direct control onboard monitoring solution which provides the ultimate flexibility for any speaker configuration.

This allows from mono to up to full 64-channel dolby atmos monitoring, all with speaker processing, delay and configurable monitor groups, trusted by thousands of music studios and post-production facilities worldwide.

This tried and tested monitor control solution has been put through its paces in real-world studios for several years. For even more flexibility PRO|MON can be controlled remotely across the network, and hands-on using the Digital Audio Denmark MOM hardware monitor controller.

For engineers already set up with Eucon-enabled control surfaces the PRO|MON controller will fit right in, making it the perfect partner for Avid’s Dock, S1 or even the free Avid Control app.
